Dr. Stavros Stavropoulos is a globally recognized interventional endoscopist and leader in advanced endoscopic procedures. Currently heading the 3rd Space & Endoscopic Surgery program at Mount Sinai South Nassau, he is known for pioneering Peroral Endoscopic Myotomy (POEM) in the Western Hemisphere and remains the highest-volume POEM operator in the U.S.

A Yale and Columbia graduate, Dr. Stavropoulos is dual-board certified in Internal Medicine and Gastroenterology. He has made major contributions to third space endoscopy, including ESD, EFTR, and STER, promoting minimally invasive, organ-sparing treatments.

He is also actively involved in the development of innovative endoscopic devices and has published widely, including award-winning research. A respected educator and speaker, he founded the prominent “Long Island Live” endoscopy course and holds honorary fellowship with the Japanese Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy.
