Romano Sassatelli is the new Director of the Complex Structure of Digestive Endoscopy of Santa Maria Nuova. The professional, born in 1962, medical director at the same structure since 1997, where he also exercised the role of deputy director, will succeed the outgoing head physician Giuliano Bedogni, who has headed the department since 1985. Dr. Sassatelli, who graduated in Modena, has obtained in the same University the specialization in Gastroenterology and Digestive Endoscopy, in 1990, and that in General Surgery at the University of Parma, in 2006.
The professional career of the doctor has been characterized by the acquisition of functions of increasing responsibility that have seen him, since 1998, take on the positions of Head of the Colorectal Cancer Screening Department Project and Member of the Screening Guidelines Company Group and Referent for treatment with Argon of lesions of the digestive system.
Since 2003 he has held the position of High Specialization in Biliopancreatic Endoscopy, which in 2005 became a Simple Structure for which he was given responsibility together with that of the Prevention and Early Diagnosis Program for Colorectal Cancers. Dr. Sassatelli has edited qualified and particularly important publications in various national and international journals, ranging in all areas of the discipline, and has played active roles in various scientific societies operating in the field of competence: Italian Society of Digestive Endoscopy (SIED) , American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy (ASGE), Italian Society of Pathology of the Digestive System (SIPAD), Italian Society of Gastroenterology (SIGE).
National President of the Italian Colorectal Cancer Screening Group (GISCoR), since last March, Sassatelli is currently a member of the Board of Directors of the Association for the Study and Treatment of Digestive System Diseases (ASCMAD) and of the Council of the Order of Doctors and Dentists of Reggio Emilia.
