Dr. Sabbagh is a gastroenterologist trained at Paris VII University in France. After completing his medical studies, he pursued a subspecialty in endoscopic ultrasound. Upon returning to Colombia, he assumed the position of Head of the Gastroenterology Department at Clínicas Colsanitas, with a primary focus on his work at the Reina Sofía Clinic in Bogotá. From the outset, Dr. Sabbagh dedicated himself to advancing the field of gastroenterology and digestive endoscopy, both within the institution and across Colombia.
He has been deeply involved in education, collaborating with four universities to train their residents in gastroenterology and digestive endoscopy, sharing his techniques and approaches to managing various digestive diseases. In 2008, Dr. Sabbagh played a key role in establishing the Postgraduate Program in Gastroenterology and Digestive Endoscopy, which has become highly respected and widely sought after for its excellence and academic rigor. His passion for education has also led him to organize numerous international courses in gastroenterology, endoscopy, and stowage, attracting more than 400 attendees from across Latin America. These events feature renowned professors from the United States, Europe, Asia, and Latin America, and are celebrating their 30th edition this year.
More recently, Dr. Sabbagh developed a comprehensive Endoscopic Ultrasound course for Latin America, which proved to be highly successful, especially given the specialized nature of the field. For over 20 years, the Reina Sofía Clinic, in collaboration with the World Gastroenterology Organization (WGO), has hosted postgraduate training in Endoscopic Ultrasound for Latin American physicians, with 53 graduates from 24 countries completing training programs lasting from six months to one year. Dr. Sabbagh’s academic achievements have earned him leadership positions, including serving as President of the Colombian Association of Digestive Endoscopy, the Colombian Association of Gastroenterology, and the Pan American Organization of Gastroenterology. He currently serves as Director of the 24 endoscopy training centers of the WGO across Asia, Africa, Europe, and Latin America.
Throughout his career, Dr. Sabbagh has consistently strived to innovate, enhance quality, and maintain excellence in the Gastroenterology Departments of Colsanitas Clinics, particularly at the Reina Sofía Clinic. In recognition of his contributions, Dr. Sabbagh currently serves as President of the Board of Directors of the Sanitas University Foundation. Outside of his professional work, Dr. Sabbagh enjoys spending time with family and friends and has a passion for cooking a variety of national and international dishes.
