Thomas Rösch is Professor of Internal Medicine and Gastroenterology (appointed in 2001 at the Technical University of Munich). He has been director of the Clinic for Interdisciplinary Endoscopy at the University Medical Center Hamburg-Eppendorf since 2008. He is former chairman of the endoscopy section of the German Society for Digestive and Metabolic Diseases (DGVS), former President of the German Society for Endoscopy and Imaging (DGE-BV) and on the committee of the European Society for Gastroenterological Endoscopy (ESGE). He is co-organizer and president (2009, 2012, 2015, ahead. 2018) of the Endoclub Nord (ECN) in Hamburg, the world’s largest live event and training for diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopy. He is also the former editor of the internationally renowned journal Endoscopy (until 2013) and currently deputy editor of the endoscopy section of the top international journal Gut (since 2013).

Thomas Rösch was born in Munich in 1958. After studying medicine, he worked at the 2nd Medical Clinic of the Technical University of Munich from 1985 to 2004. As an employee of Prof. Meinhard Classen, who shaped and determined the further development of endoscopy worldwide, he was shaped at an early stage by visions, commitment and professional standards for successful and sustainable endoscopic work. Here he was senior physician and head of endoscopy. He then moved to the Charité Berlin for 4 years as a C3 professor with a focus on endoscopy and as head of interdisciplinary endoscopy (Virchow campus) before he was appointed director of the Clinic for Interdisciplinary Endoscopy by the University of Hamburg in 2008.

In the first 20 years of his career, Thomas Rösch made a significant contribution to the development of endosonography as well as diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopy. Through his endoscopic skills and his research activities, he gained national and international highly acclaimed expertise and is regularly invited to the largest international congresses and specialist events in America, Asia and Europe as a faculty and board member as well as a keynote speaker. Thomas Rösch has numerous publications on new endoscopic diagnostic and therapeutic methods in top international journals including the New England Journal of Medicine, Gastroenterology, Gut, American Journal of Gastroenterology, Gastrointestinal Endoscopy and Endoscopy. He is an expert for a number of international journals. He is also the main author and co-author of various standard works and textbooks in the field of gastroenterology.

Last but not least, since 2020 Thomas Rösch is founder and chairman of Endoscopy On Air altogether with Dr. Repici.
