Dr. Mouen Khashab is a Professor of Medicine at Johns Hopkins Hospital and is the Director of Therapeutic Endoscopy in the Division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology at Johns Hopkins. He is nationally and internationally known in the field of interventional endoscopy and has contributed immensely in recent years to the advancement of interventional endoscopy as a minimally invasive means to treat various gastrointestinal and pancreaticobiliary disorders. He is also a very busy researcher and has been very industrious in the field publishing more than 510 papers in peer-reviewed journals. Dr. Khashab was awarded a Master Endoscopist recognition by the ASGE in 2022 (MASGE)
Dr. Khashab is a highly-sought after speaker at national and international conferences and has participated in multiple live endoscopy conferences. His major interest is in new technology and medical devices and he directs the animal research laboratory at Hopkins, which is dedicated for these purposes. Dr. Khashab is involved with multiple gastrointestinal societies and has served on many committees including the Standard of Practice Committee of The American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy (ASGE), which is in charge of formulating practice guidelines for the practice of endoscopy. Dr. Khashab has also served as an associate editor for the journal Endoscopy, a premier journal in the field.
Dr. Khashab completed his medical school at the American University of Beirut and subsequently completed a residency in internal medicine and a fellowship in Gastroenterology at Indiana University. He then completed a 2- year fellowship at Johns Hopkins Hospital before he joined the Hopkins Faculty in 2011.
