Professor Spinelli is the Director of the Division of Colon and Rectal Surgery of Humanitas Hospital, Co-Director of the Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) Center of Humanitas Hospital, and Full Professor of Surgery at Humanitas University.
The Division of Colon and Rectal Surgery, founded and directed by Professor Spinelli, was the first Italian surgical center dedicated to colorectal pathologies and, with a volume of over a thousand interventions yearly, has become the main reference center for all colorectal cancer and inflammatory bowel disease patients in Italy.
Professor Spinelli is a recognized key opinion leader in the field of colorectal surgery: he received more than 330 invited lectures at international congresses and is often involved as an expert consultant by the most renowned companies and academic institutions.
Professor Spinelli devoted most of his career to scientific research, with over 320 Pubmed indexed publications (H-index of 46 on Scopus). He founded a Surgical Trial Unit with a team of specialized clinical scientists, project managers, methodologists, and biostatistics, who are currently managing more than 50 clinical trials. During his career, Professor Spinelli dedicated most of his efforts to the development of a structured teaching and mentoring program.
