Luca Maroni is Assistant Professor at the Clinic of Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Digestive Endoscopy, Azienda Ospedaliero Universitaria delle Marche, Ancona, Italy. Since 2021, he is also Council Member of the Società Italiana di Gastroenterologia ed Endoscopia Digestiva (SIGE) for the macroarea composed by the regions Marche, Abruzzo, Umbria e Molise.


Luca Maroni received a Degree in Medicine and Surgery at the Università Politecnica delle Marche School of Medicine, Ancona, in 2010. He then applied for a Ph.D. program on the physiopathology of the biliary epithelium and spent 2 years at the Tytgat Institute for Liver and Intestinal Research, Amsterdam, the Netherlands, under the supervision of Prof. Ulrich Beuers and Prof. Ronald Oude Elferink. During the following residency in Gastroenterology at the Clinic of Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Digestive Endoscopy, Azienda Ospedaliero
Universitaria delle Marche, Ancona, he spent six months at the Digestive Endoscopy Unit, Humanitas Clinical and Research Center and Humanitas University, Rozzano, Italy under the supervision of Prof. Alessandro Repici and DoT. Andrea Anderloni, where he trained in biliary
endoscopy (EUS and ERCP).


The clinical and research activities of Prof. Maroni are based on the management of inpatients and outpatients affected by gastrointestinal disorders, with a particular focus on chronic autoimmune liver diseases and biliopancreatic diseases. He regularly performs diagnostic and
therapeutic esophagogastroduodenoscopy and colonoscopy and has a particular focus on biliary endoscopy.
